Community Outreach
The CottageThe Cottage is a thrift shop run by the Presbyterian Women, located on Mill Pond Parkway, just a few doors down from the movie theater. The purpose of the Cottage is to receive and sell used clothing.
Hours: We are open to the public Tuesday 6pm-8pm / Thursday 10am-Noon / Saturday 10am-Noon.
The Cottage has been in the news lately. You may have read the saga in the Photo News, thanks to Judy Wason's well-written letters.
The backlog of donation bags had become a huge pile that filled our workroom to the ceiling. The Cottage actually had to close its porch to donations to avoid a health or fire hazard. For weeks, the few volunteers well enough to work sorted through this formidable mountain of treasures and junk. Judy's letters shared the good news that the backlog is now manageable and that the Cottage is back to accepting donations.
The Cottage, so vital to our Church's financial health and our local outreach to less fortunate families, is still in trouble. Our volunteer ranks are stretched thin and the operation is functioning in a crisis mode.
We need more Cottage workers to share the load. It's not a difficult job. it takes no special skills. but those who have volunteered there for our community have found it rewarding. We have day and evening hours, sorting, stocking and selling. Could you work a few hours once a month? Do you know a friend who could do so?
Please call Cindy Wykretowicz (783-2893) to find out more.
Members: Gail Dejmal, Director, Beverly Doty, Jean Engles, Terry English, Frank and Jean Eppinger, Jeff Gray, Frank Laurent
We have instituted a new sign-in system, changed our criteria to limit our clients to our geographical area, re-organized our ordering procedures and expanded our storage space.
We hope to start a newsletter for our clients with recipes and help w/nutrition. We would also like to involve our Youth to a greater degree. We could always use some additional volunteers.
If you are interested in helping at the Food Pantry, please contact the Church Office at 845-783-1632, or by E-Mail.
You Are Not Alone.
If you have had a significant loss in your life (a death, loss of a job, a divorce, etc.) this group might be for you. It is a support group where people listen to each other's concerns share experiences and discuss a study book which provides focus for the group.
